Maryanne is the founding Director of the Nakuru children’s center, which she initiated in 2005 and she has been with us since.  Maryanne was inspired to open the center when she realized how many children attending a local school were going hungry.  After initially running the program from her home, in 2006 she moved the center to a nearby donated house which also now serves as a sanctuary and a chapel.  Maryanne is responsible for overseeing all center operations including the feeding program, the educational programs, external relations with other community groups including local schools, and the volunteers.

There are a number of programs in our Nakuru Centre:

  1. Feeding programs- We feed over 350 children on daily basis. The food is cooked at the center and then transported to nearby schools with bicycles to our children.
  2. Education. We have a Kindergarten and first grade at the center. We have high school student who are in boarding schools. The computer room teaches the students on technology, and plans are underway to open a cyber café for our children and also for the community.
  3. Health- We have a clinic for children and the community. AIDS/HIV prevention classes offered to the community, and counseling services for those with AIDS/HIV. There is also a Voluntary counseling training (VCT) for the community.
  4. Bible study- We have a mentor program with a pastors who want to be study the word of God. We also train young students in Discipleship and Evangelism. We have a church made up of our children and the community and we have services throughout the week.
  5. Extra-Curriculum- After school home work assistance program. Sports- soccer, Track and field, acrobats, choir and Dance are taught. Weekend and vocation camp programs are also offered when schools are closed for vocation.
